A true global benchmark, the Criteria GSTC are in the public domain to serve as a guide for those wishing to implement sustainable tourism practices in their business.

For the past 6 months, we have been working on a ready-to-use "Sustainable Tourism" reference system based on the GSTC Criteria.

We have adapted the content for digital use through our AnCodea quality software.

This new digital tool will enable organizations to assess their level of practice and prepare for GSTC certification.

Prior to the creation of this new service, we submitted the project to the GSTCand together we defined the terms and conditions for use of the source content, which is the property of the GSTC.

Who is GSTC?

The GSTC as the acronym indicates, is the : Global Sustainable Tourism Council ® (GSTC) or in French: Le Conseil Mondial du Tourisme Durable.

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council ® (GSTC) establishes and manages global standards for the sustainable travel and tourism sector, known as the GSTC CRITERIA ".

For whom and why?

The new service is aimed at public decision-makers, tourist destination managers, hotels and tour operators.

To offer them a facilitating solution to assess their level of sustainable tourism practice and implement an improvement action plan. If necessary, to prepare for GSTC.

The service will be extended to players in the "MICE" and "ATTRACTION" markets in the 1st quarter of 2024!

The service

This new service, offered exclusively by ChangeforSaaS Solutions, via its AnCodea solution, provides tourism operators with a complete toolbox including self-assessment, action plan, best practice recommendations and reporting.)

Several reference systems are available, depending on the activity:

  • destination repository, aimed at public decision-makers and destination managers,
  • industry standard for hotels and tour operators
  • Note that two new standards will be available from 2024, the "MICE" and "ATTRACTION" standards.
Each reference is built around the following four pillars:
  • Sustainable management
  • Socio-economic impact
  • Cultural impact
  • Environmental impact.
We update the content each time the Criteria evolve GSTC.

The service is available by subscription on your AnCodea platform, or via our online repository service platform if you don't have your own AnCodea platform.

Please note that this new "Sustainable Tourism" ready-to-use repository service, offered by ChangeforSaaS Solutions, may not be used for commercial purposes without prior agreement.

GSTC certification
The certification process is a credible means of recognizing our commitment.

English is the official language of the certification stages leading to formal recognition of sustainable practices, and certification audits are carried out using the original grids GSTC grids in English, regardless of the country or language of the organization.

On AnCodea, each criterion of the French version is coupled with its English version. This means there's no risk of misinterpretation due to translations proposed by the GSTC !

In France Bureau Veritas is one of the certification bodies accredited by the GSTC.

GSTC Criteria

Criteria GSTC CRITERIA Criteria are the result of a worldwide effort to develop a common language for sustainability in tourism. They have been drawn up with a view to :
  • serve as a basis for certifying sustainability.
  • to serve as general guidelines for businesses of all sizes to move towards more sustainable practices, and to help businesses choose sustainable tourism programs that meet these global criteria.
  • promote better access to the growing market for sustainable products, by guiding both travelers and travel agencies to choose reliable sustainable tourism providers, programs and businesses.
  • help consumers identify reliable sustainable tourism programs and businesses.
  • serve as a common denominator for information organizations to identify sustainable tourism providers.
  • support certification and other voluntary programs to ensure they have standards that meet a widely accepted frame of reference.
  • provide governmental, non-governmental and private-sector programs with a starting point for developing sustainable tourism prescriptions.
  • serve as general guidelines for education and training organizations, such as hotel schools and universities.
  • show the way to encourage other players to move in the right direction

Since each tourist destination has its own culture, environment, customs and laws, the GSTC CRITERIA Criteria are designed to be adapted to local conditions and supplemented by additional criteria for the specific location and activity.

These Criteria have been developed and revised in line with the standards development system of the ISEAL Alliance, the competent body that provides guidance on global standards for the development of sustainability criteria in all sectors.

The Criteria are revised every three to five years. The revision schedule and advance registration for public contributions to future revisions are available at www.gstcouncil.org.
